ROASTING VEGGIES

A couple of months back, my man surprised me with a top-rated vegan cookbook. Verdict: the ultimate and most complete veggie-lover bible. It honestly takes the cookbook to another level, covering every single way to eat every single vegetable, with hundreds of recipes and cooking tricks and guidelines. Precedent to the recipes there are whole introductory sections such as "Stocking the Veganomicon Pantry", and "Cooking and Prepping Terminology", along with "How to Cook a Grain", and "How to Cook a Vegetable" and "How to Cook a Bean". I mean, the authors really know their shit stuff.
Anyhow, I began leafing through this cookbook and was drawn to the simple section about roasting veggies in the oven. The steps are few and the results - FABULOUS. I'm particularly partial to roasted asparagus and potatoes.

OVEN ROASTED ASPARAGUS
Preheat over at 400°F.
Remove the rough stem bottoms.
Drizzle and coat the asparagus with olive oil, sprinkle with salt and fresh black pepper. Place on a lightly greased baking sheet (I use a glass pan).
If you like, add minced garlic 5 minutes before the asparagus is done, and mix it in with tongs. You can also complement with tarragon, thyme, crushed fennel seeds, rosemary, or fresh lemon juice. My personal favourite is balsamic vinegar, and I also toss a few tablespoons of capers along.
Roast 15 to 20 minutes, the tips should be a bit crispy and the stems should be lightly browned and crinkly.

OVEN ROASTED POTATOES
Preheat over at 425°F.
Cut potatoes into ¾-inch chunks.
Drizzle and coat with olive oil, sprinkle with salt and fresh black pepper. Place on a lightly greased baking sheet. Again, a glass pan also works.
Roast 45 to 55 minutes, turning occasionally. Again, if you like, add minced garlic 5 minutes prior to end time  and mix it in using tongs. You can also add complements of your choice, and formidably, potatoes go well with just about any herb: paprika, rosemary, thyme, sage and on and on down the spice rack.

Try them out, with a side of rice, for days you don't feel like tackling on a complex recipe, but still want to eat a hearty, healthy meal. And try them out especially in the winter months to come!

IT'S IN THE DETAILS

Subtleties in the details are pretty much my favourite things when it comes to styling. It's an elusive and knowing nod sent and received by those who are in the same game, and creates in a few seconds an acknowledging bond between persons.

At Thom Browne; le tricolore. I love this so much that it tingles in my stomach.

INFINITI

I recently ordered a delicate gold band from Sansoeurs. It is a simple slim gold thread, with no visible beginning or ending, which loops around itself to form an infiniti symbol. Take a look at their jewelry, everything is handmade, and arrives in a cute handmade packaging. Let me know which are your favourites!

LA BOTTINE

Hands down, I would declare the ankle boot with little stacked heel to be the most versatile and practical shoe form to have ever grazed the face of earth. Especially when it comes to Montreal, where 8 months a year, boots are your only plausible option. For those of you who can look at boots without being overwhelmed with feelings of entrapment or dread for the months to come - these beauts from Marsèll are a nice alternative to the Marant booties, like a chicer, older sister. The only thing keeping them away from my possession is the open toes. (That, and the price tag.)

LOOK DU JOUR

This is what I wore earlier this week, to grab dinner in the Village. Yes, another full-fledged sweater obsession is clearing under way.

FORMAL DINNER

Whether you're hosting an elaborate dinner party, or preparing mac n' cheese, this brilliant formal collar apron will definitely elevate your kitchen swag. Think of all the ways you can wear it; cinched with a belt, over a buttoned shirt, over a secretary blouse, with bow-tie...the possibilities are nearly endless. Hahaha.

FAVOURITE

I thought I'd show you one of my favourite items in my possession. I found it in a thrift shop, for around 3$. The strap is falling apart and I need to replace it.

I'M BLUE DABADI DABADA

My man and I always seem to be unconsciously matching our outfits somehow. Today, we both went for blue as we headed out and about town for brunch and such. You know, lovers' monday...blues.

On another note, I snatched this Marant-esque sweater at Zara, on sale, and have been hoping ever since for a break from this scorching heat we've had for a couple of weeks straight, to be able to wear it out. Today is also the first time I'm wearing my repettos! :)

DETAILS

As soon as we got home after the exhib my man and I decided to watch The Fifth Element. The costume design truly reeks of Gaultier. The highlight of the exhib? The interactive models! Some were really realistic and made me feel a little weird...Lol.

SOON: DETAILS

Here's a sneak peak of the Fashion World of Jean-Paul Gaultier exhibition, currently held at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts.
My man and I went a couple of weeks back and I'm only now starting to go through the pictures that we took. Stay tuned!

BON CHIC, BON GENRE.

photo: deadfleurette
